SEO Check list
IF you are looking for a successful Search engine optimization campaign, then these are certain things to be checked before you start anything else.
Accessibility
- How many pages are indexed by Google, Bing & Yahoo?
- Does the site use query strings in URL? Dynamically generated?
- Are any important elements of the site in flash?
- Are any important elements of the site in java script?
- Does the site use real text (html) or pictures?
- Are any pages more than 3 clicks from home page?
- Are the amount of codes required reduced, to correctly render a web page as much as possible?
- Are 301 redirects in place? Are there any 302 redirects?
- Are there any content in Frames and iFrames needed for SEO?
- Are there any Canonical issues?
- Are there any duplicate content issues?
- How does the site handle 404 server responses?
- Do they have any broken links?
- Do the pages load quickly?
- Dose the site hold good content?
- Do they have a strong internal link structure?
- Do they have robots.txt and sitemap.xml files?
- Are All JavaScript called from external files?
- Dose the site hold any designing or coding issues?
- Dose the Site hold any kind of invisible text?
- Any clocking issues found?
- Dose the site hold any doorway pages?
- Are there any hosting downtime issues?
- Any session IDs used?
Keywords
- List keywords suggested by current site’s content.
- Access site’s analytics (if available) for additional keywords
- Check keyword search volume.
- Check rankings for their targeted keywords.
- Are H tags used properly?
- Is the keyword density sound in the content?
- List competitors showing for those keywords.
- Dose title tag contain relevant keyword phrase (no longer than 70 characters)?
- Dose title tag contains any special characters.
- Do they have duplicate title tags?
- Are Meta descriptions descriptive (no longer than 150-180 characters.)? Do they contain keywords?
- Do they have duplicate Meta descriptions?
- Are keywords used in URLs, headings, body text, bold?
- Are keywords used in internal links?
- Dose the content contain the relevant keyword phrase and variations of the keyword phrase?
- Dose Keywords appear as close to the top of the page as possible?
- Are important keyword phrases Bold, italicize and underline?
- Are Heading tags used for page and section headings? Do they contain the relevant keyword phrase? As Search engines put an emphasis on page headings to help define the topic of the page.
Links
- Do they have a good link structure?
- How many inbound links do they have? (Compare to competitors)
- Is their anchor text keyword focused?
- Do they link internally with good anchor text?
- Do they have a dmoz listing? Yahoo directory?
- Do they have any Wikipedia listings?
- Do they have a blog?
- Are they active in social media? Which platforms?
- Do they have webmaster access?
- Do they have Google analytics?
Images
- Are keywords used in images alt text?
- Are images named according to the page and keyword?
